Class Description
This family dance class provides space for adults and children to move, explore, play and learn about dance together. The emphasis of this class is community building and inclusiveness, meaning that children (and adults!) are welcome to participate in whatever ways work for them. After our dance class ends, families are invited to stick around for an informal open studio time to chat, play with props, read books and dance.
All classes include:
An Opening and Closing circle; in which each child and adult is acknowledged, welcomed, oriented to the class and appreciated.
A Warm Up; a series of fast and slow movement prompts to favorite tunes to get us moving and shaking.
Skills Building; Learning and practicing developmental movement patterns and new dance skills.
Dance explorations: Exercises in which students are asked to improvise or freestyle with a particular focus in mind. Explorations include dancing with instruments and other props.
Relaxation: Our relaxation period often involves children being pulled, wrapped and rocked on blankets to some sweet music. Always a favorite part of dance class!
